The death toll from the devasting earthquake on the Indonesian island of Lombok has risen to 347, according to Government-run Antara news agency.

The powerful magnitude-6.9 quake that struck the island on Sunday has left tens of thousands of people homeless and tourists stranded in airports.

Aid has began reaching isolated areas of the island as rescuers intensified efforts yesterday to find those buried in the rubble.

The national disaster agency stood by its latest death toll of 131 despite other government agencies including the military reporting much higher figures.

The rise in death toll comes as Facebook apologises for automatically decorating posts about the deadly earthquake with images of balloons and confetti on the social media platform.
