The family of a man who stole a commercial airplane from Seattle-Tacoma Airport and performed aerobatic stunts before fatally crashing has remembered him as a "warm, compassionate man" who didn't mean to harm anyone.

Airport worker Richard Russell, 29, has been named as the man who died in a fiery crash on the sparsely populated Ketron Island on Friday evening (local time).

Russell went by "Beebo" on social media. On his Facebook page, which had limited public access, he said he was from Wasilla, Alaska; lived in Sumner, Washington; and was married in 2012.
