[(Title)] Former British soccer star wakes up to find rat eating his foot.

A former British soccer star, who played 20 seasons in the Premier League, had to cut his South African vacation short after a rat began feasting on his foot.

Gary Mabbutt, who most notably played 16 seasons for Tottenham Hotspur, took an emergency flight home after the chomping carnivore was noshing on his appendage while he slept.

"It's made quite a big hole in my toe, going down to the bone, and ate underneath my foot,"  said Mabbutt, 57, who claimed he was laid up for a week the after the grisly July ordeal.

Suffering from type 1 diabetes, he told BBC he has little feeling in his feet.

Mabbutt added he was visiting his daughter, who works at Kruger National Park, a 7,500-mile game reserve in the northeastern portion of the country, during the time of the rat attack.

Despite the horrific nature of the event, Mabbutt was able to laugh off the situation.
