The German-based automaker blamed declining sales for pulling the plug on the Bug. The company sold just over 15,000 of the famous model in 2017, down 3.2 percent from the previous year.

In the months to come more automakers will be announcing more iconic model cancellations."

Both will be available in convertible and coupe versions and will range in price from $23,045 for the coupe to $27,295 for the convertible.
